A classic t shirt that is well fitted and super soft is absolutely an essential wardrobe item. You can dress a t shirt up or down to make it work for a lot of different occasions. Today I wanted to share three ways to dress up a t shirt for work.

Style it with more formal pieces

When you want to dress up a t shirt for work one of the easiest ways to do so is to style it with more formal pieces like slacks, chinos, or a skirt. In this case I’ve styled one of my favorite super soft t shirts from Mott & Bow with a black faux wrap skirt (similar here). This elevates the appearance of the t shirt while still keeping things comfortable. This is a great example of a smart casual outfit that would work well for many office environments.

Add a Blazer

When in doubt, add a blazer! This is my motto for most outfit conundrums, however it works particularly well when you want to dress up a t shirt for work. A basic t shirt and jeans instantly becomes more office appropriate when paired with a blazer.

During warm summer months, try a linen blazer or another natural material like cotton that is lightweight and breathable. As we start to transition towards fall (yikes!) traditional lined blazers in heavier materials like acrylic or even wool will become more appropriate.

Accessorize

Accessories are such an easy and fun way to dress up a t shirt for work. In this case I’ve added a belt and long necklace to the outfit to make the t shirt feel a little less plain, but you can add any accessories you want. Think about options like vests, scarves, belts, and jewelry to add texture, color, and interest to your outfit. Accessories help to bring together the outfit while still keeping with the comfortable vibe that the shirt brings to the outfit.
