I have a distinct memory of walking out the door in my freshman year of high school in jeans, sandals, and a long sleeve shirt while it was pouring rain out in San Francisco. My mom was horrified, but I just shrugged because I wasn’t cold. Times have changed and now it seems I always run cold, so I wanted to share three must have wardrobe staples to keep you warm this winter. The common threads between these three items are versatility and the ability to layer them.
Blanket scarf
All scarves are great, but the beauty of a blanket scarf in particular is that it is big enough that when you take it off, you can put it on your lap to keep you cozy at work. Additionally, the large square shape of a blanket scarf allows you to style it in different ways. I even will keep one of these in my car in case I get cold while I’m out, or need something to keep me cozy during long car rides.
Multipurpose jacket or coat
I’m a fan of leather or wool for this, but really it all depends on your style. Opt for a nice jacket that can be worn from day to night. This wool coat is one on my go to options because it makes any outfit look put together. Additionally, the leather jacket pictured is one of my favorites.
With any coat or jacket, you can use it to top an outfit to keep warm, but another trick to give the outfit a different feel while keeping you extra warm is to layer on a hooded sweatshirt under the jacket or coat. This adds another layer, gives a more casual vibe, and can change things up so you can style the coat in a different way. Versatility is key, and layering a hooded sweatshirt under a jacket is a simple way to add warmth and style.
Down vest
I’m late to the game on this one, but I’ve recently become obsessed with this down vest. Keeping your core warm really does make a difference, and this vest is great for hanging out around the house or working on the computer because it doesn’t constrain your arms. I also love layering a down vest under jackets because it adds warmth but doesn’t add much bulk. Since you don’t have the sleeves, it’s much easier to fit under a variety of coats.
I also keep this vest hanging by the door so I can grab it to go for a quick walk with the dog, or even just to run the trash out.

Each item can be styled and worn various different ways, and can be adapted to meet your needs. This is in no way a comprehensive list, however these three wardrobe staples to keep you warm this winter are what I love most right now.
