Depending on where you live, it might still be warm out like it is here in California, but it’s still a great time to build up your fall work wardrobe. Today, I’m talking all about the best items to build up your fall work wardrobe and how to do so in a way that makes it as timeless as possible. Quiet luxury is all the rage, and it’s no surprise why. If you’re new to this concept, quiet luxury is a minimalist approach to dressing that focuses on thoughtful shopping and wearing true investment pieces. Similar to the capsule wardrobe, it allows you to invest and utilize a few key pieces to build up your wardrobe and create multiple styles.
When it comes to the best items to build up your work wardrobe for fall, considering this trend will be extremely helpful. You likely have many of the items already in your closet, so it’s about mixing and matching what you own with key items that will help you cultivate a cohesive style when you get dressed. This will also help you maintain your budget which we all know is an importance piece of building a wardrobe that aligns with your lifestyle.
Here are a few of my favorite key items to help build up your Fall work wardrobe:
Cashmere Sweater
Cashmere sweaters are definitely not new, however they’ve become much more affordable and attainable for the average person.
I love Mott & Bow’s line of cashmere sweaters. They have options for men like this beige sweater that my husband loves, and for women (pictured above) that are so buttery soft and cozy! Made from a cashmere yarn sourced from Inner Mongolia, these lightweight sweaters feel airy. As an added bonus, the material provides pill resistance so your sweaters appear like new for longer.
Note: If you need to freshen up your sweater, consider a sweater shaver (linked here) to revitalize your old cashmere or other soft materials.
If you’re looking for extremely budget friendly cashmere. Consider an alternative material that will give you the same look and feel for less. Target’s new “cashmere-like” line of sweaters are extremely reasonable, and if well taken care of, can appear to be high quality as well.
Straight Leg Jeans
Straight leg jeans are definitely having a moment, but this style of denim is classic and will always be a timeless wardrobe staple. The cut isn’t wide leg, and it isn’t super skinny, so it’s a great in-between style that works well for most body types. Going into fall, it’s always nice to have a darker wash option that you can dress up a bit more than some of the lighter or distressed washes you’ve been wearing all summer. Mid to dark wash, straight leg denim is a key item to input into your arsenal of wardrobe staples to build up your fall wardrobe.
Black or Grey Denim
Remember back in the day when colored denim was all the rage? Black and grey jeans are like the cool, more elevated cousins to the colored skinny jeans still sitting in the back of your closet.
Black and grey denim can also be super versatile when it comes to building your fall work wardrobe because they can be dressed up or down based on the situation.
Meeting a client? Throw on a blazer with grey jeans.
Getting work done at your computer? Black jeans always work with a casual white T-shirt. However you style them, you can go wrong with these classics for fall.
Loafers
Loafers are a great way to elevate your outfit for a smart casual vibe while still maintaining all the comfort of sneakers. This can be particularly important when it comes to a work wardrobe if you want to command respect from others. Adding small notes of sophistication to your look will not only help you appear more polished, but can help you feel more confident.
Boots
We can’t talk about fall wardrobe staples without discussing boots. Boots are a key element of any Fall wardrobe, but just as with every other item of clothing out there, the styles shift from year to year. Lug sole boots are a trendy (and comfortable) way to add something fresh and different to your outfit. Pair them with straight leg, cropped jeans, or even a wide leg trouser to integrate them into an outfit you already love and feel confident in. As an added bonus, rainy fall weather is no match for lug sole boots, so you’ll get some added traction when you throw them on in the rain!
