I want to point out that while I am in a crop top in the picture, I never suggest wearing a crop top to work or work related events. The goal of this post is to show you different styling options for the palazzo pants, but I want to make it very clear that I do not endorse wearing a crop top in any work related situation.
How to style palazzo pants for work
The only thing I would change about my outfit with the blazer and palazzo pants if I were going to a work related event would be to swap out the crop top for a full length top tucked into the pants.
Palazzo pants are flowy, so the key to creating a polished and professional look is to make the pants the star. Tuck your blouse into the pants, and opt for a simple blazer. Palazzo pants can add volume to the body, so it’s important to be mindful of the other items of clothing you pair with them. Go for a slim-line blazer that fits fairly close to your body. You want it to add structure and shape without bulk. This is not the place for a boxy or boyfriend style blazer.
Tucking in your shirt highlights the waistline, and will create a more flattering appearance. A shirt tucked into a pair of high waist pants automatically creates a longer and leaner appearance. By tucking in the shirt, it makes the bottom half of your body (the palazzo pants) look longer, which can make you appear taller. This is an added bonus if you’re short like me!
How to style palazzo pants for a social event
When you don’t have to worry about being work appropriate, you can have more fun with your look. I like styling palazzo pants with a crop top because you don’t have to worry about tucking in the top, but you get the same effect. When I look for crop tops to style with high waisted bottoms, I look for crop tops on the longer side so there’s only about an inch or two of skin exposed. This is a personal preference, however I tend to be more conservative.
When you’re styling palazzo pants for a social event, think about the venue. If it’s outside, you may want to opt for a hat, and be mindful of your footwear.
Palazzo pants are also a great item to pack for vacation because they can be used as an easy swimsuit cover up.
How to take your look from work to play
If you’re trying to take your palazzo pants from work to play, be mindful of each situation. Style them with a fitted top that you can easily tuck in and wear under a blazer at work. When you leave the office, you can either remove or swap out the blazer for a more fun jacket, and depending on your office dress code, maybe you add more jewelry when you leave work and go out afterwards.
The pants are very versatile, so as long as you’re mindful of the situation you’re in and what is appropriate, you can wear them almost anywhere!
