How To Style a Maxi Skirt for Spring at the Office

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of maxi skirts and dresses. They’re super versatile, flattering on any figure, and can easily be dressed up or down. The maxi skirt is a great option for spring, so today I’m breaking down how to style a maxi skirt for spring at the office.

Start by figuring out how formal or casual you need to be

When you’re trying to style a maxi skirt for spring at the office, the first thing you should do is determine how formal you need to be. Is your office dress code business casual or business formal? Depending on how casual or formal your office dress code is, you’ll be able to style the maxi skirt differently and pair it with various clothing options.

Tuck your blouse into your skirt

It might be okay to throw on a camisole and leave it untucked outside of work, but tucking in your shirt at the office is a must. It creates a more polished appearance, and will add more shape to your body. Tucking in your shirt highlights the waistline, and will create a more flattering appearance. A shirt tucked into a high waist maxi skirt automatically creates a longer and leaner appearance. By tucking in the shirt, it makes the bottom half of your body (the maxi skirt) look longer, which can make you appear taller. This is an added bonus if you’re short like me!

Add a belt

Adding a belt will create more structure to the outfit, cinch your waste, and create a more polished and put together appearance. When you’re tucking in your blouse, adding a belt over the tuck covers up any weird seams or lines. Additionally belts can add extra interest and flair! When it comes to maxi skirts and waist belts, I like belts with a stretchy section, as this helps mold to your body and creates a better shape.

Want to make things more professional while still keeping it casual? Opt for third piece.

When in doubt, add a jacket. For spring, a denim jacket is a great option! This is the third piece rule in action. The jacket automatically pulls the outfit together and makes it feel more formal. If you’re trying to keep your business casual attire professional, wearing a jacket will always help. If you want to dress up your look more, opt for a blazer instead of the denim jacket. Regardless of what material it is, adding a third piece such as a jacket creates a more cohesive and put together look.

If it’s chilly, add a scarf

Scarves are a great way to experiment with pattern, color, and texture because they are fairly inexpensive, and you can be bold with them because it’s such a small part of your total look. Spring can still be chilly, so adding a scarf to your look is a simple way to add a bit of extra warmth with some flair.

_______________

When you go to style a maxi skirt for the office, the key is to create a cohesive look that looks polished and professional. Depending on your office dress code, you might be able to dress things up or down with a blazer or denim jacket, but either way, the goal is still to look presentable and ready for work!
