This healthy orange chocolate chip quick bread is a great breakfast option, but can also be used as a sweet treat or dessert! It’s made with whole wheat flour, has no refined sugar except for what’s in the chocolate, and has no oil, which makes it a super healthy way to get your sweet fix.
It also comes together really quickly, so you can make it whenever you get the urge for something sweet!
Healthy Orange Chocolate Chip Quick Bread Ingredients:
- ½ cup raw honey
- ½ cup plain Greek yogurt (I use 2%)
- 1 tablespoon orange zest (from 1 orange)
- 3 tablespoons fresh orange juice (from half an orange)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- Pinch of kosher salt
- 1 cup + 1 teaspoon whole wheat pastry flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chocolate chunks
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees
Line a standard loaf pan with parchment paper and set aside.
Start by mixing your wet ingredients. In a mixing bowl, mix raw honey, yogurt, orange zest and juice, vanilla, and the egg until everything comes together. Be sure that the honey mixes in so that ther aren’t big clumps of it throughout the wet mixture.
In a separate bowl, mix 1 cup of whole wheat pastry flour, pinch of kosher salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients in three batches until all of the dry ingredients are moistened.
Mix the additional teaspoon of flour with the chocolate chips and stir everything so that the chocolate chips are coated in the flour. This will help them disperse evenly through the batter.
Mix the chocolate chip/flour mixture into the batter and stir to distribute them evenly.
Lightly spray your parchment paper lined loaf pan with cooking spray and pour the healthy orange chocolate chip quick bread batter into the prepared pan.
Bake at 375 for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a little chocolate on it. You want to make sure the batter isn’t gooey and raw in the middle.
Note that this healthy orange chocolate chip quick bread will come out a little darker in color than you might expect, but this is normal due to the honey and whole wheat flour. Enjoy!
