Healthier Blue Cheese Dip

Last weekend was super bowl, and we had a bunch of friends over for a last minute get together. I knew that I wanted to put out some simple and delicious appetizers, but wanted to keep things on the lighter side too. Sitting around a table of food can get really caloric really fast, so I created this healthier blue cheese dip to lighten things up while still packing a flavor punch. Made with nonfat Greek yogurt, this healthier blue cheese dip has a wonderful tang, is packed with protein, and is infinitely lighter than traditional blue cheese dips which are often made with mayonnaise and sour cream.

To make this healthier blue cheese dip even better, it comes together in minutes, and actually tastes better as it sits, so it can be made up to a few days in advance!

Healthier Blue Cheese Dip

Healthier Blue Cheese Dip Ingredients:

  • 1 16oz container or nonfat plain Greek yogurt
  • About 1 cup of crumbled gorgonzola blue cheese (about ½ lb)
  • ¼ tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp dried thyme

I highly recommend buying a piece of blue cheese and crumbling it yourself, as it actually loses some of its potency when you buy it pre crumbled. If you go a little over or a little under a cup of the blue cheese, it won’t really matter. Add more or less depending on your taste buds.

Crumble your blue cheese and mix all of the ingredients together. Viola, that’s it! How easy was that? See, I knew you could do it! I made this the day of and it was delicious, but when I went back and put some of the leftover dip on a cracker the next day, it was even better! The longer that the flavors can meld together, the better it tastes.

Serve this dip with crackers, or carrots for a beautiful and healthier appetizer!

As a bonus, you can use this healthier blue cheese dip to make a healthier blue cheese dressing! Use a heaping spoonful of the dip, and cut it with a bit of unflavored oil such as canola or avocado, and a dribble of water for a delicious and healthier salad dressing. Happy cooking!
