I talk a lot about workwear, but part of building a versatile wardrobe is having casual clothing that is comfortable while still letting you look put together. These wardrobe staples will ensure that you can dress in a casual way without appearing frumpy or disheveled. Here are four items of casual clothing you should keep in your wardrobe.
Non workout sneakers
When it comes to four items of casual clothing you should keep in your wardrobe, sneakers are super important. I’m not talking about exercise shoes for running or going to the gym (yes, those are important too). I’m talking about sneakers that you can comfortably walk around in, run errands, site see, or anything else without looking like you’re in activewear. Athleisure may be trendy, but it’s always a good idea to have casual clothing that doesn’t appear as if you’re headed to the gym.
I’m totally in love with these Sperrys. They are super comfortable with a memory foam base, they are easy to throw on because they slip right on without having to deal with shoe laces, plus they are stylish without being too fancy. I’m a big fan of Sperry boat shoes for both women and men, but love this alternative for a slightly more functional shoe.
Your perfect pair of jeans
Finding your perfect pair of jeans can take a lot of testing and try-ons to figure out what style and cut works best for your body. I’m a huge fan of high waist skinny jeans, and these Mott & Bow jeans are my current favorite. I swear I’m tempted to get them in every color available! They’re comfortable, flattering, and make me feel both casual and put together at the same time! I love how tapered the leg is because one of my big pet peeves is when “skinny jeans” are actually wide and get all wrinkly at the bottom towards the ankle. No problems with that when I wear these jeans!
Again, it’s important to find jeans that work for you. Maybe you’re more of a boot cut, mom jean, or straight leg person. Who knows, but either way it’s important to have at least one pair of jeans that you feel confident in.
Cozy sweater or top
I’m a huge fan of sweaters, and thin and cozy sweaters (or tops) are my favorite. I’ve had this black sweater for years, (similar here) and it is always such an easy top to throw on and go. You can tie your sweaters up to add more shape to your outfit (pictured) or you can leave them undone and stick with the cozy and relaxed vibe. Either way, when it comes to four items of casual clothing you should keep in your wardrobe, a cozy sweater is definitely one of them.
Carryall bag
If there’s one thing every person needs to have it’s a carryall bag. I’ve talked about it before, but I’m completely obsessed with this bag from Dagne Dover. The coated canvas looks like leather, but it’s super durable and perfect for any occasion. Plus it has a ton of pockets and a zipper closure on top which is amazing.
I also really like this Fossil messenger bag that is totally unisex. It’s a little more rustic but works as a perfect carryall option. You can use it for travel or to put your laptop in to go to work.
