Writing aside, (I’m going to assume that you’ve already putt all of your effort into writing your resume and cover letter, and just need a few finishing touches for it to be complete) this trick can make everything seem instantly more polished.

Applying this header to your resume, cover letter, and reference list (if you’re including one) ensures that nothing will get lost or become unidentifiable within a pile of documents.
I suggest using something simple but powerful. A good tool is always Google. Need some inspiration to make your header pop? Simply look up “Resume Headers” in the images section for endless ideas. I recommend sticking to basic black font, but if you want some contrast, stick with greys or other neutrals as to not take attention away from your qualifications and actual writing within the documents.
