The Best Way to Change Up Your Wardrobe on a Budget

Have you ever looked into a full closet only to feel like you have nothing to wear? I know I have. It’s common to get bored of your clothing and crave some new looks, so today I’m talking about the best way to change up your wardrobe on a budget.

The answer is simple: Accessories.

Accessories are the best way to change up your wardrobe on a budget because you can utilize the clothing you already have while changing the style with various different add-ons.

If you haven’t watched the movie “Iris” I highly recommend taking the time to watch it. It’s an enjoyable movie following Iris Apfel, the fashion icon, highlighting her unique take on style. One of the many things she stresses throughout the movie is the power of accessories and how they can change a look.

Take the simple black dress that’s pictured. For this effortless weekend look I paired it with a long necklace and felt hat. It was great for what I wanted because it was breezy, kept the sun off my face, and took minimal effort.

If I were going to a business function, I would have paired this dress with a pair of pumps, and either worn a blazer on top, or a button down blouse underneath to make it more formal.

On the flip side, this dress could easily be paired with gladiator sandals and a lot of chunky jewelry to give it a more exotic look.

The most affordable and versatile kind of accessories which change the feel of an outfit include:

  • Jewelry (think bangles, long necklaces, short necklaces, and statement earrings)
  • Hats (different materials create different vibes: straw is beachy and felt is a little more chic)
  • Belts (flowy dress? Belt it at the waist for a more sophisticated feel)
  • Shoes (pumps or closed toed flats are the most office appropriate, while flat and other sandals feel more low key)
  • Scarves (when it’s not quite as hot out, scarves are great to amp up your style! Check out this video for ideas on how to tie your scarf for different effects)

When you’re wondering about the best way to change up your look, think about adding various accessories to change the vibe of your outfit, but remember that less is more! You never want to feel overdone. As Coco Chanel put it, “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”

  1. Accessories are my best friends for years. Sometimes, your wardrobe could be full, but if you are a little bit overweighted (it happens sometimes), nothing pleases you … In that case, choose a classic neutral outfit, comfy, and accessorized. Always happy to read about your posts (even if I have missed some, but the period before the vacay is always very busy).
