Feeling like you’re in a workwear slump? Try this for a foolproof office outfit; the shirt dress. The shirt dress is completely foolproof, easy, and effortlessly chic, which is why it’s one of my wardrobe staples. I’ve chosen this sleeveless option (it’s under $20!) because it’s been really warm out, but as we transition into fall, a long sleeve or ¾ sleeve shirt dress is also a great option for work. Here are my favorite styling tips for this foolproof office outfit:
Dress it up or down
The shirtdress is great because you can dress it up or down for practically any event. Regular day at the office? Throw on a pair of pumps or wedges and you’re good to go. Daytime event? No problem. Throw on a cute pair of sandals with a statement necklace and you’re set. When styling your shirt dress for a night time event, simply switch out your shoes for a fancier sandal or heel, put on jewelry that feels more formal, (think metals and stones) and grab an evening clutch.
You can use one dress as the base of multiple different outfits
Another reason why the shirtdress is a foolproof office outfit is because you can use this one piece as the base of different outfits. If you’re wearing a sleeveless option, you can even throw on your favorite long sleeve blouse under your dress to give it a completely different look and feel.
Similarly, you can switch up your accessories to make each outfit feel completely different. Try pairing your shirt dress with a blazer for a fresh take on a spring time work look, or swap out your blazer for a utility jacket and a choker to give your look an edgier feel.
I also love playing with different belt options to create more shape and amp up the style. Here I’ve chosen a thin brown belt to compliment the brown in my shoes, but you could play around with different styles to see what you like.
It’s the easiest outfit you’ll ever wear
One piece and you’re done. A shirt dress is one of the easiest outfits you’ll ever put together. You can absolutely accessorize your look, but if you’re in a hurry and need to get out of the house quickly while still looking polished and put together, the shirt dress should be your go-to piece. One item and you’re out the door. It doesn’t get much simpler than that!
