Offsite team bonding events have become increasingly popular as a way for companies to engage employees and build morale, but figuring out what to wear to these events can sometimes be stressful. An offsite event might be anything from a baseball game to an escape room or anything in between, so it’s definitely more laid back than work. With that in mind, you still want to be sure that you’re giving off the right impression to your coworkers. Here are three things to consider when you’re getting dressed for an offsite team bonding event.
The event itself
When it comes to three things to consider when you’re getting dressed for an offsite team bonding event, the first thing to think about is the nature of the event. What is the event? What will you be doing? Will you be standing or sitting? Will you be active or more stagnant?
If you’re going to be active and moving around for something like an escape room, be sure to wear comfortable clothing and shoes that you don’t have to really think about. You don’t want to worry about your clothing when you’re going to be active and trying to solve a problem.
If you’re going to be really active for something like a softball game, activewear is a must. Go for clothing that you can move (and sweat) in without having to consider limitations of your clothing.
These are my favorite leggings (I have 7 pairs of them for each day of the week) that are thick enough to be worn like pants without having to worry about them being shear if you bend over. They’re super comfortable, breathable, and flattering.
Weather
Weather is always a big factor in what you should wear to a team bonding event. If it’s warm out, opt for something comfortable that you won’t feel too hot in.
I’m a big fan of high waist shorts and a T shirt because it’s a comfortable, laid back outfit that provides a lot of flexibility and versatility. You can dress this outfit up a little with some wedges, or keep it super casual with sneakers.
If the event is going from day to night, be sure to bring a jacket or sweater to wear it if cools off.
On the flip side, if it’s cold out, dress accordingly so you’re not freezing. Being too hot or too cold can totally ruin your day!
Even if it’s laid back and casual, it’s still a work event
Out of the three things to consider when you’re getting dressed for an offsite team bonding event, this is perhaps the most important. Regardless of how fun, casual, and laid back the event may be, it’s important to always remember that it’s still a work event, and these are still your colleagues. Regardless of how you dress in your free time, it’s important to remain appropriate when you’re attending a work event. This isn’t the time to wear skimpy clothing or clothing with fowl or crude language on it.
The point is to have fun and enjoy yourself, but you’re still surrounded by people who you work with daily, so it’s important to remain professional.
