Culottes seem to be everywhere. There are casual and dressier options, so I wanted to talk about how to style culottes for work.
Find the right pair
The first important factor of how to style culottes for work is finding the right pair that fit your body. As someone who is five feet tall, I often have a hard time finding cropped pants that are actually the right length on me. Most of the time “cropped” pants are actually the perfect full length pant for me.
Finding the right pair of culottes will likely take a bit of trial and error. You’ll just have to see what brand, size, and cut is right for you. I tried on several pair before I settled on these black linen culottes pictured. The key to finding flattering culottes is finding a pair that flatters your body. Aim for a pair that is slimmer through the waist and hips to create a more hourglass shape.
Add a cute pair of heels
When you’re figuring out how to style culottes for work, making them office appropriate is key, and styling the pants with a cute pair of heels is a simple way to do this. Heels automatically upgrade an outfit, and create a longer, leaner shape to the body. I’ve opted for nude heels because they elongate the leg. With cropped pants, wearing a bold or chunky heel can often add bulk to the body and make the overall outfit look heavy. By choosing a simple nude heel, you will add length to your legs, and the shoe won’t cut off your leg line.
Add a blazer
A blazer is a fail proof way to dress up an outfit. In this case, I chose a linen pant which could be dressed up or down, so adding a blazer was key to make this look office appropriate. Because the blazer was longer, I went with a basic camisole underneath to keep the look clean and simple. Culottes can add volume to the body, so it’s important to be mindful of the other items of clothing you pair with them. Go for a slim-line blazer that fits fairly close to your body. You want it to add structure and shape without bulk. This is not the place for a boxy or boyfriend style blazer.
If it’s warm, simple chose a nice blouse
If it’s warm out, you can always pair your culottes with a nice blouse, but make sure you tuck the blouse in. When you are styling culottes for work, it’s important that they look polished and professional. It might be okay to throw on a camisole and leave it untucked outside of work, but tucking in your shirt at the office is a must. It creates a more polished appearance, and will add more shape to your body. Tucking in your shirt highlights the waistline, and will create a more flattering appearance.
