It’s easy to fall into the trap of wearing the same outfit over and over again, and while there’s nothing wrong with embracing a style or outfit that you love, it can get boring after a while. I tend to revert back to my basic white blouse when I don’t know what to wear, so I wanted to share how to spice up your white button down shirt.
Style it with a belt
One of the best ways to spice up your white button down shirt is to style it with a belt. This works best when the shirt isn’t super fitted, but can work with a fitted shirt as well. A thick belt breaks up the monotony of the white shirt and when it’s styled with a loose shirt, it helps create a great hourglass figure with the cinched waist. This is the same concept of putting a belt on top of a loose dress to give a more flattering shape to the body.
You can still use a thick belt to break up a fitted white button down, and it will still look good, but you won’t get the same shaping effect if the blouse is fitted to your body.
Try wearing it with a vest
In a similar effect as a belt, a vest will help change up the look of your basic white top. There are a lot of great vests out there for casual or work attire so you’ll just have to try them on and see what option works best for you. Vests are a great way to spice up any outfit and change the look of your basic pieces. For something different, you can also try styling your favorite vest with a dress, or a short sleeve/sleeveless blouse for something different.
Layer it under a dress
Layering your white button down shirt under a sleeveless shift dress is a great way to stay warm as the weather gets chilly and it also creates a new look to the dress. Instead of wearing your dress under sweaters or jackets for fall, try this blouse trick for something different. I like to pair a white button down with a black dress and boots. This ends up appearing as a whole new dress and is a great way to spice up your white button down shirt. If you do this, just make sure that the dress is loose enough that you can fit the button down underneath without any weird bunching or lines.
