It’s the age old dilemma: How to dress when it’s too hot. There’s been a massive heat wave in Southern California, and as a native San Franciscan, I’m totally melting! Unfortunately work doesn’t stop when it’s hot outside, so dressing appropriately for work while combating the summer sun is key. It can be hard to dress when it’s too hot out, so I try to mix it up, but I often find myself wearing the same sort of attire in this weather, and I assure you it helps control my sanity.
With temps crawling towards the triple digits, I always go for loose clothing. This does not give you a pass to look like a bag person and wear clothes that don’t fit, however this is a great opportunity to wear flowy dresses and oversized tops. My trick to looking polished with a looser garment? Cinch your waist with a belt. You’ll still get all the comfort and feel of the breezy fit, while showing off the shape of your body and giving the illusion of an hourglass figure.
Also try going for basic, simple pieces and throw on some jewelry to spice up your look. In the heat, the last thing you want is a bunch of layers, so try and stick to one piece looks. A sheath dress, maxi dress, or jumpsuit is a great option because it looks polished and put together in one easy piece. To minimize extra weight, stick to long lean necklaces instead of chunky jewelry to tie together your look.
Another great outfit option is pairing cotton crop pants with a nice sleeveless blouse and heals. This always looks chic, yet the cropped pants are breathable (due to the cotton) and expose your ankle, which drastically cools your body down. You can always wear a great open toed shoe as well, as long as it in no way resembles a flip flop!
These are my go-to looks for the heat, but what about you? Show me your best summer office style, with #writestyles for a chance to be featured!
