I get it, there are thousands of great gift guides out there, but for some reason, there doesn’t seem to be one for what to get for people you don’t know that well. It’s a struggle because you want to get them something nice, but don’t want to spend too much, but also don’t know them well enough to pick out something to meet their liking. Fear not, I have been in this situation more times you can count, and I have rounded up the best gift ideas for these acquaintances.
- Everyone Loves Bakes Goods
When in doubt, bake. I always live by this motto, and it doesn’t change when it comes to gift giving. Most people love home baked goodies, and if they aren’t into sweets, they will at the very least appreciate that you took the time to make them something yourself. Not into cookies or bars? Think of making spiced nuts, or my toasted pumpkin seed recipe!
- For the Professional
Think monogramming. There are so many fabulous options for monogramming these days like etsy, but also companies like May Designs make it super easy an inexpensive to buy gifts for those who you don’t know well, while making it appear very personal and thoughtful. Anyone can benefit from a good set of stationary, and at such a great price point along with various deals and discounts all month long, May Designs makes it ridiculously easy to shop for everyone on your list!
- For the entertainer
You know those people who have everything, love to entertain, and you just don’t know what to get? Try to find quirky entertaining ideas and create little gift baskets. Cost Plus World Market is a great place to find unique and inexpensive items for those who love to entertain. Try a cool wine opener, or set of coasters and napkins, or even a little set of cocktail party plates.
- For the Host/Hostess
You may not want to get something big, so a candle is a perfect gesture to say thank you. My absolute FAVORITE candles are Voluspa. These candles are pretty inexpensive, come in various sizes, and really make the entire place smell wonderful. I have a 2 bedroom apartment, and when I burn these in the living room, the whole place smells great!
- For the environmentalist
Want to give a little gift for someone who is super green? Give them a reusable bag (I Love bagu) that they can fold up and keep with them, and fill it with things like reusable water bottles, coffee mugs, and tea. They’ll get to use the bags and goodies inside!
- For the Holiday Enthusiast
Get them a pretty ornament and wrap it up nicely. Places like Target and Michaels have beautiful ornaments at low prices, and you can dress it up with the packaging. Check your local dollar and craft stores for inexpensive cellophane bags, ribbon, and faux greenery to make it extra pretty!
- For the Cook
What cook doesn’t like festive cookware? Grab a couple of those adorable snowman printed spatulas and tie them up in a bow for a cooking inspired gift!
- For the Little Children
A festive holiday book is a no fail gift for small children. What children don’t like bed time stories? Try picking a book that you enjoyed at that age, or have some fun at the bookstore and pick a fun new twist on an old classic!
- For the Tweens/Teens
Pick something that they can use. Either notebooks, fun pens, or tote bags that can be used everyday. Duffle bags are also great options if you want to spend a little more, but those could be a bit out of price range for someone you aren’t close with.
- For the Person You Know Absolutely Nothing About
Find a cute mug, that stands out to you. It can be festive or not, and fill it will some hot coco packets. Dress it up by packing it in a cellophane bag with a ribbon, and voila! Everyone has some sort of nostalgia about hot chocolate, and if they don’t like coco, they can use the mug for whatever they please.
Figuring out what to get for people you don’t know that well can be a struggle, but hopefully with these simple gift options, you’ll have a hassle free and easy gift giving holiday season!
