From Work to Play

The work week is coming to an end, and that means we can go from work to play, both in our state of mind and clothing. I’m a denim girl and will almost always reach for my favorite pair of jeans on my days off, but sometimes there’s not much time to change out of your work clothes if you’re going to grab a quick dinner or drinks after a long day at the office. Fear not, because tonight I’m talking all about how to take your office outfit from work to play!

I usually live by the motto that you can never be too overdressed, however you often don’t want to be dressed in your office attire when going out afterwards. It’s nice to give some separation to your day and give yourself a break from office life. With that in mind, it is very simple to take your office look out at night time. Just a few quick swaps and you’ll be ready to go!

First, ditch the pencil skirt or slacks! Not only can they make you feel like you just left the office, but you probably don’t want to wear them out afterwards after you’ve been in them all day long. Ditch your office appropriate bottoms, grab some cute denim, (I usually go for a dark wash at night) or if you’re feeling fancy, a skirt that you didn’t sport earlier at work. Changing even one item of your clothing, even if it is to another similar item can make you feel refreshed and prep your mind for a bit of a relaxing break.

Next, trade the blazer for a fitted jacket. I usually opt for leather as my go-to fabric, but anything that makes you feel a little less buttoned up will do the trick. (See the common theme here?)

This one might surprise you, but keep on the blouse and the heels. We live in a generation where denim can be dressed up or down, but keeping on the nice top will make your outfit just chic enough and make you feel a little more upscale and polished than wearing a basic t shirt.

As far as the heels go, I’m 5ft tall and was made to rock heels, however I do think that regardless of your height, heels command respect. If you compare a person in flip flops to one in heels, I promise you that almost every single time, the person in heels will command more respect and be thought of as a higher authority level.

Last, but not least, put on your favorite jewelry. I notice that often people don’t wear much jewelry to the office, which is fine, but adding one of your favorite accent pieces to your night time look can help you feel like you’re getting ready to go out with friends instead of going to work.

You’ve made it all the way to the end of the work week, so congratulate yourself, and get ready to take your Friday outfit from work to play!
