It’s finally that time of year again when the weather is nice and everyone wants to be outside. As you transition your wardrobe make sure that you have these items to ensure that you’re prepared for any seasonal situation. These five summer wardrobe staples you should own will get you through almost any casual or semi casual get together or event!
A good hat
The summer sun is no joke, and if you’re going to be spending time outside, invest in a good hat that you’re comfortable in. When it comes to five summer wardrobe staples you should own, a hat is arguably the most important. Not a baseball cap, but a hat that protects your head and neck, and looks more polished and put together. One of my favorite styles that works for both women and men is the Panama hat. It’s lightweight, protects your head and neck, and looks great on almost anyone.
There are a lot of great straw hat options out there, so just try some on until you find one that you like. If you get a nice one, you’ll be able to keep it for a long time.
Summer shoes other than flip flops
Seasonal footwear can be tough sometimes. When it’s really hot out, it can be tempting to wear flip flops everywhere, but make sure you have some summer shoes that are more appropriate to wear to dinner or an event. For women, think about some nice sandals that have a bit of a heel.
A great footwear option for both women and men are boat shoes like Sperry’s. They’re great in the heat, still pretty casual, but look a lot more put together than a pair of flip flops. They also work with both long pants or paired with shorts or a dress, so they’re super versatile.
A basic t shirt without any graphics
There’s nothing wrong with t shirts, and graphic t shirts with logos or images have their place, but opting for a basic cotton t shirt in either a plain color or fun print will look a lot more polished while still giving you the exact same level of comfort.
A basic t shirt can be dressed up or down, so just look for a nice quality breathable cotton t shirt, and make sure that it is wrinkle free! If you don’t like to iron, (I hate ironing!) invest in a mini steamer. It will change your life and make it super simple to get the wrinkles out of any of your clothes.
Nice shorts (non denim)
Summer is the time for shorts, and though denim shorts may be trendy, it’s important that you own a nicer pair of shorts that you can wear out to dinner or dress up for a get together or event. Think about linen shorts or nice cotton shorts.
My go-to shorts for women are high waisted shorts because you can tuck in a simple t shirt and dress the whole outfit up with heels for a simple summer look. By tucking a loose blouse into the high waist shorts, it creates an hourglass shape to the body.
For men, a great summer look is a pair of linen or khaki shorts paired with a button down shirt (short or long sleeved) and a pair of boat shoes.
Both of these looks are easy, breezy, comfortable, and looks polished with minimal effort.
A lightweight jacket
Even though it’s summer, it often gets cooler at night, so having a lightweight jacket is a must. This can be a lightweight blazer, sweater, or any other jacket you like, but it’s important that you invest in a jacket that looks nice but is made from a lighter material. Grabbing your wool jacket from fall or winter will surely lead you to be far too hot!
