There are all kinds of articles about being adventurous with fashion, but I’m a firm believer that it’s okay to figure out what works for you and run with it. This isn’t to say I think you should wear the same outfit day after day, but if you find a figure flattering shape, why wouldn’t you wear a lot of it? I’m only 5 feet tall, but I do have some curve, so finding pieces that cinch at the waist are key to highlight my hourglass shape.
There is no body type that I can think of that doesn’t benefit from a cinched waist. The key to this shape is finding the narrowest part of your waist and putting the belt at that point. This may be higher or lower on your midsection, but as long as you cinch wherever you’re narrowest, you’re golden.
Highlighting my hourglass shape, I recently discovered that the peplum top (pictured) works really well on me, and can be worn casually, with a pencil skirt, or with slacks, so it’s an extremely versatile piece. The peplum works in a similar way that a cinched waist dress works, showing that you can stick with the same shape, but utilize different pieces and styles to achieve it. For this look, I paired my favorite black pencil skirt with a textured peplum top, nude heels (which you can see do wonders to elongate the leg!) and a statement necklace. I also never leave the house without my favorite sunglasses! How do you style yourself for work?
