Anyone who knows me will vouch that about 75% of my closet is black, the other 20% is still neutral, and that last 5% consists of some sort of color. I tend to be very predictable in the colors I wear, which I truly believe is okay. While it’s always great to spice things up, there is also nothing wrong with sticking to what works for you. This said, embrace the unexpected, and when you are drawn to something, roll with it!
Though I love pattern and pops of neon, this combination is not typically found in my wardrobe, however walking through the store, I was immediately drawn to this dress. The cut was perfect for me; fitted on top, cinching at the waist, and slightly flared at the bottom, so I knew that would work well, but the print wasn’t in my comfort zone. I decided to go ahead and try it on anyway, and low and behold, I LOVE IT! I can tone it down with a black blazer and shoes, or when worn stand alone, I can really embrace the loudness of it. As I always say, fit is number one, and because this item fits so well, I can definitely get away with wearing it on a lot of different occasions. In fact, I wore this to work today with a basic black blazer over it. Who cares if it is a little loud? It’s completely appropriate with the blazer, covering the upper body to ensure no one gets offended in the office.
This dress isn’t a game changer for me. It’s not going to change my love of neutrals or my personal style, but it does break me out of my comfort zone. If you’re drawn to something unusual for you, try it out. See what happens and embrace the unconformity of it. It’s okay to walk on the wild side sometimes; in fact it’s actually great!
