If there is one thing I’ve noticed, it’s that people often shy away from bold prints. Be it women or men, people often seem to think that bland and boring is the way to dress for work, however this is not the case! Try something new and elevate your style with printed pants!
Way back when I worked in the men’s clothing department at Nordstrom, someone once taught me a trick about how to tell if I was dressing appropriately (specifically if I was formal enough) for work. She told me that I should be able to stand next to someone in a full suit (woman or man) and feel like I was just as formally dressed as them. That may sound horrific to some of you, but the trick is to realize that you can look just as appropriate and polished as someone wearing a suit without actually wearing one yourself! And on top of that, you don’t have to dress in boring colors or styles to look office appropriate.
Hands down, every time I wear a pair of well fitted printed pants to the office, I get compliments. People always seem to love the look of them even if they are too afraid to try on a pair themselves. The trick to printed pants is finding a style that fits you well, or subsequently tailoring pants so they fit you well. Printed pants will highlight any areas where the pants don’t fit well, so getting a pair that looks like it was meant for your body is essential! My favorite way to rock a printed pant is with a neutral colored print (I chose black and white for this pair) and a neutral top and blazer. The neutral colors and basic pieces tone down the bold pants and act as somewhat of a security blanket. That way, if you’re totally out of your comfort zone with the pants, you can take solace in the fact that they are acting as a statement piece and anchoring the rest of your closet basics. There’s something about being bold enough to rock a printed pant, and from experience I can tell you that if the pants are well fitted, the bold move will pay off and everyone (including you!) will love it!
