Comfortable Doesn't Have to Look Casual

I hear the same excuse for dressing badly all the time. People continually claim that they want to be comfortable, which is why they dress in ill-fitting and unappealing clothing, however comfortable doesn’t have to look casual, and I’m here to show you my secrets for looking polished and feeling great in your clothes.

My first tip is to feel the fabric and figure out what you like. There are all sorts of super soft cotton fabrics which both look and feel lovely. There are also silk look alike materials which are a fraction of the price and give you the same feeling of the expensive stuff. When you go shopping, make sure to go through and touch the items and see how they feel against your skin. Every person is different and every material feels differently against each person. See what feels great to you, because part of feeling comfortable is the material you’re wearing.

My next tip is to find pieces that are all-in-one outfits. What I mean by that is that the clothing item has everything built into it that you need for an outfit. For example, the dress I’m wearing (similar dress here) fits well, has a fabric that feels nice, has detail around the neck so I don’t have to add on extra jewelry, and has a cinched waist which adds shape. Another great example of an all in one outfit is a jumpsuit or maxi dress, which are both one-piece wonders that you can easily throw on, feel comfortable in, and look polished. This is the ultimate evidence that comfortable doesn’t have to look casual.

Lastly, test how the outfit functions before you wear it out. There is nothing worse than buying a great item of clothing that looks fabulous in the store but isn’t functional to wear. Examples of this include pants that are too tight/cut into you when you sit down, dresses that ride up when you walk, or shirts/blouses that you have to tug at all day to make sure they’re in place. Test out clothing before you buy it or wear it out. Sit down in pants in the dressing room, walk a loop around the department or at least fitting room to see how that dress falls, and move around a bit to see if your shirt stays in place. They key to feeling comfortable and looking fabulous is having clothes that feel great on you, and if you’re going to be tugging at stuff all day, you won’t feel comfortable or polished.

Always remember that comfortable doesn’t have to look casual, and you can dress well for work while still keeping your comfort level up. Work clothes can be comfortable too if you shop correctly and follow these simple tips listed above. Happy shopping!
