Obviously fit is one of the most important factors in a great outfit, but aside from that, what makes an outfit stand out? Well, it’s about balance, and how the different pieces play off of one another. The 4 things you must remember are color, texture, pattern, shine. Those are the building blocks to a great outfit! I’ve never actually paired these pieces in my wardrobe together, but as I searched my closet to get ready for work, they jumped out at me. Not only do all the pieces fit well, but this is a perfect example of an outfit that utilizes color, texture, pattern, and shine. The cream colored lace along the neckline of the camisole plays off of the cream colored tweed blazer, while the pinks in the floral print on the shirt give a slight pop of color.
The tweed blazer adds texture to the outfit, making it a bit more interesting than a basic smooth blazer, while the camisole adds both a floral pattern and shine. Not every outfit needs to include all of these aspects, but adding at least one aspect of color, texture, pattern, or shine will ensure that you’re never in a boring outfit, and that each piece plays off one another! Learning how to utilize these different textiles when dressing just takes some practice, so play around with your wardrobe, and try putting pieces together that you might not have previously thought of!
