We’d all love to have an unlimited amount of money to spend on clothes, but since that isn’t typically the case, I wanted to give you a tip on how to make your clothes look like they were made for you. Probably the 2 biggest differences between luxury vs. bargain items are quality of materials and fit. And because the quality of materials usually isn’t as stellar as those high ticket items, it becomes even more important that your bargain piece fits you PERFECTLY!
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, but buy a piece that fits you, regardless of the size. I guarantee that if a size 4 fits you better than a size 2, you’ll actually look slimmer in the bigger size. Squeezing into a smaller piece actually gives you the illusion of being bigger than you are, whereas tailoring a bigger piece to fit your body makes you look slimmer.
The easiest way to get a perfectly tailored piece is to shop to fit the biggest part of your body. For instance, if you’re really busty, make sure that nothing pulls around the bust area, and fits perfectly. From there, you can easily have anything taken in, highlighting all of your assets in the right way. It is possible to do, but it is much harder to let a garment out than to take it in. I purchased this polka dot dress years ago for something like $30, but because I had it tailored to fit me, I almost always get complimented when I wear it. It’s not about the price, but about how it fits, and most importantly, how you wear it!
