Whether you’re just starting out in your career or you’re a seasoned executive, it’s always nice to gain a little motivation and inspiration, so I’ve rounded up my favorite career resources everyone can benefit from. We live in an era where we can google everything and learn a lot of new skills on a whim, so take advantage of this! A lot of these resources are free!
Podcasts
How I Built This is one of my favorite podcasts ever. Guy Raz interviews everyone from the founder of Power Rangers to Bobbi Brown, to the creator of Instagram about their story, how they got started, and what they learned. This podcast is not only inspirational, but really fun and motivating to learn the background stories that you probably don’t know about some of the largest companies and moguls of our society.
The Baily Hancock Show helps people figure out how to make big career moves with small steps. Baily is a good friend of mine and a great resource for everyone in their twenties and beyond. On this podcast you’ll listen to interviews with amazing people who provide insight into building a career that’s perfect for you, how they navigated a sometimes less than ideal career path, and what they wish they would have known when they were starting out. You’ll even get to hear me on one of the earlier episodes!
Online Resources
If you’re here reading this article, you’ve probably somehow come across my website. Write Styles is my website where I share all sorts of resources about career development, office style, and healthy recipes that you can make during the work week. I developed Write Styles to help people present the best version of themselves, both on paper and in person, so I’ve cultivated a website full of resources to help you do just that!
Career Contessa is a great resource to help you gain insight on your perfect career path, office politics, and everything else associated with career development. This career focused site was built for women to help you search for a job, change careers, and advance in your current position.
Glassdoor is a great resource that can help guide your job search and figure out office or company specific information. The blog has great insight, but what is particularly useful about Glassdoor are the company ratings where employees provide anonymous feedback on what the company culture is like, salaries, etc. This can help provide insight on what a company is like behind closed doors, which can make a big impact on your job search.

Books
Shoe Dog is a memoir by Nike co-founder Phil Knight, which chronicles the early struggles of creating the brand, and of being part of a federal investigation. This book was inspiring, an easy read, (I read it in three days) and a total page turner. It’s not only motivational, but educational as well because paints an amazing picture of what the business landscape was like in a different era, and what it was like doing business with other countries.
Adulting: How to Become a Grown-up in 535 Easy(ish) Steps is a quick and easy read that is amazing if you’re early in your career, however it’s still comical and useful if you’re farther down your career path. This book will give you insight and tips for navigating life with hysterical and completely relatable anecdotes. One of my favorite quotes from the book is, “A pet is not a living safety blanket. It is a small being with hopes, dreams, and a frequent, ongoing need to poop.” (Just in case you want a pet but have not considered what a big commitment it is.)
