I’m always looking for new and interesting lunch options, and this Asian sesame slaw is a great way to change things up while staying healthy and eating a delicious meal! The cabbage is hearty, adds a lot of nutrients and crunch, and it packs really well, making it a great option for meal prep or to take to the office. This Asian sesame slaw can be made and served immediately or made ahead of time depending on your needs
It’s also a great potluck dish because the recipe can be easily doubled and it’s a total crowd pleaser! It’s also vegan, and can be made gluten free is well if you swap out the soy sauce for a gluten free version.
Asian Sesame Slaw Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp Trader Joes Garlic Dip (or 2 cloves of crushed garlic)
- 1 tbsp canola oil
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame seed oil
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tsp rice wine vinegar
- 2 tsp honey
- 1 ¼ cup shredded green cabbage
- 1 ¼ cup coleslaw mix or shredded red cabbage
- ¼ cup raw sliced almonds
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
Start by making the dressing. Mix the garlic dip, oils, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, and honey in a large bowl until everything comes together in one smooth mixture. Next add in the shredded cabbage and coleslaw mix. I like the red and green cabbage mix with shredded carrots from Trader Joes, but you can use any bagged coleslaw mix or simply use shredded red cabbage. The red cabbage is more for color than anything else, as it contrasts beautifully with the green cabbage.
Mix in the sliced almonds and sesame seeds and toss to combine. That’s it! This Asian sesame slaw comes together quickly, is packed with flavor, and is a great meal or salad option when you want to change things up. You could also add in tofu or chicken for extra protein to make it a more hearty meal option. Enjoy!
