What to Wear to Thanksgiving

Sure, in a perfect world where money is limitless, I would buy every clothing item that my little heart desired, but the reality is that I have a budget, and as I draw inspiration from around me, I often have to go shopping in my own closet to create the outfit in my head. Thus, I present you the challenge to draw inspiration from others and shop in your own closet.

This sounds a little crazy because sometimes the reason you want something is because you have nothing like it, however I think if you took a moment to scour your closet to create the outfit in your head, (or something similar to it) you would be very surprised at how good the outcome is! Often we forget about items we own because we tend to gravitate towards our favorite pieces over and over again. The beauty of this is that when you do find that long lost blouse or pair of pants, it’s like a special treat and kind of like you just went shopping!

You’ll see I am wearing wine colored denim with a striped blouse and a blazer. My original inspiration is pictured below,as I loved the stripes with the contrast of the red slacks.

Unfortunately I don’t own red slacks, and with the holiday season upon us and gifts to be purchased, I try to limit my spending to items I really need vs items that I just want or think are cute. Thus, I scoured my closet to see what somewhat resembles this adorable outfit. Low and behold, I grabbed my wine colored skinnies, vertical striped blouse, and essential black blazer.

Draw Inspiration From Others and Shop in Your Own Closet

I think my outfit came pretty close to my inspiration, and because the clothes were already mine, they actually worked better for me than if I were to seek out items to get this same look. I’ve been talking a lot lately about making things work for you and your unique situation, and this is no different. Don’t be afraid to draw inspiration from others and shop in your own closet. You might just be surprised at all the goodies you find!
