Cardamom Iced Coffee

For many, the start of springtime also signifies the unofficial start of iced coffee season. I invested in an espresso machine years ago and it was hands down one of the best investments I’ve ever made. It paid for itself within the first year because I stopped going out to buy coffee, and truthfully the coffee is way better than a lot of options out there. Additionally, I can control exactly what goes in my cup.

This cardamom iced coffee is the perfect springtime treat, and can be made exactly to your liking. The cardamom simple syrup gives a hint of earthiness and spice that compliments the coffee perfectly. The syrup can also be made ahead of time and stored for up to a month in an airtight container in the fridge.

Cardamom Iced Coffee Ingredients

For the cardamom simple syrup:

  • ¼ cup filtered water
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom

For the iced coffee

  • 1-2 shots of espresso or cold brew coffee
  • Milk f your choice (I like 2% or almond milk)

Start by making the cardamom simple syrup. Place the water, sugar, and ground cardamom in a small nonreactive pot over low heat. Continuously stir the mixture until the sugar dissolves, then remove the syrup from the heat and let it come to room temperature. The cardamom will continue to infuse the simple syrup as it cools. Note that the cardamom will settle at the bottom, so just stir it up before you use it.

Note that you can use the syrup before it has cooled completely, but it’s important to wait until it is fully cooled before you transfer it to an airtight container and move it to the fridge.

Add 1-2 shots of espresso or as much cold brew coffee as you’d like to a glass. Add in a teaspoon or two of the cardamom simple syrup and stir to combine. I like to use one teaspoon of the syrup, but if you want your cardamom iced coffee on the sweeter side, add an extra teaspoon.

Once you’ve mixed the coffee with the simple syrup, fill the glass up with ice then top with the milk of your choosing. I like to use either 2% milk or almond milk, but just use whatever milk you prefer.

This cardamom iced coffee is great in the morning or as an afternoon pick me up! Happy Spring!
