Few people want to admit it, but color coordinated outfits always look better in pictures. With the holidays around the corner, I wanted to share some tips for how to create color coordinated group outfits without putting everyone in matching sweaters.
Pick a color palate
The first thing to do when you’re learning how to create color coordinated group outfits is to pick a color palate. Think about sticking with one or two main colors so that it’s easy for everyone to get a bit of color into their outfit. For the photo above, I went with black and burgundy.
One main color works great, but when you have a larger group, tow colors tends to be easier because it’s more likely that everyone will have something in one of the two color choices.
Forget about perfectly matching
It’s rare that everyone will match perfectly, so forget about finding clothing all with the exact same hue. Instead, focus on picking items within the same color family. This could be shades of red, blue, black or whatever color you choose. As long as people are wearing the same color family, the actual shade won’t matter at all.
Look for patterns with your color theme
It can be hard to find solid colored clothing in a certain color, and everyone in the sane solid colored shirt is boring, so when you’re trying to create color coordinated group outfits, turn to patterns. Patterned clothing often has more color, which makes it easier to find patterns with the color of your choosing. Even if it has just a tiny bit of the color you want, this will work well in the photo. Additionally, finding a pattern with a tiny bit of the color theme will please those people who aren’t thrilled about partaking in color coordinated group outfits.
If all else fails, add accessories
If all else fails and you can’t find clothing that you like, turn to accessories to meet your color theme. Fun scarves, hats, ties, or even socks can be a simple and easy way to ensure that everyone has a bit of color in their outfit.
Whether or not you want to admit it, color coordinated group outfits photograph extremely well, and make for a fun and memorable group pic. Instead of focusing on matching outfits, just ensure that everyone has a bit of color to match the theme.
Happy holidays!
