I’ve always said that I’ll know I’ve hit it big when I’m able to invest in a designer suit that’s perfectly tailored to my body. While I’m extremely proud of my success, that type of investment isn’t quite on the horizon yet, so I’ve created my own more affordable, yet still incredibly chic version of the power suit.
Suits often have the reputation of being boring and stuffy, but I’ve always admired the crisp long lines and the gorgeous silhouette that a perfectly fitted suit provides, both on women and men. Thus, I’ve created my own version of the power suit to utilize throughout my everyday life. I got a high quality black blazer, and then have invested in a few different styles of black pants and pencil skirts to pair with it.
To be quite honest, I found my favorite theory blazer on sale with the original tag still on it at a consignment store, and purchased these Trina Turk slacks for a fraction of the price at Nordstrom Rack. Let’s be honest and realize that we can’t all afford to splurge on clothing, however if you are willing to make somewhat of an investment, it’s often possible to find the same designer brands you see in the magazine for a much smaller cost if you search for them. Designer brands aside, Banana Republic is always a failsafe option to find great workwear, and if you can find one around you, the factory store is the absolute best. With most of the same items sold in the full line retail store, Banana Republic Factory Store is often 20%-40% off regular prices, and sometimes even more than that! If you’re really on a budget, I’d recommend checking out H&M, but inspect the items to see how they fit and how they lay on your body before purchasing.
The great thing about a power suit is that it can be worn as a whole, or broken up into separates for everyday use. You’ll see me in this blazer a lot! (For example: here and here) There is nothing more professional, appearance wise than a well fitted suit. While you can be just as dressed up and formal without wearing one, the suit is an icon of business, and will always stand the test of time. It may sound completely corporate and stuffy, but trust me, find some well fitted separates or a great suit, and it will completely change your mind!
A great suit is like a suit of armor; it will make you feel strong, powerful, and like you can take on any challenge that comes your way. Women: for even more confidence, throw on a pair of classic black pumps to top off the look!
