Winter Calls for Warm Colors and a Pop of Plaid

As many of you know, I love a good felt hat, so when I came upon this olive green hat by San Diego Hat Company in the midst of a sale at a local boutique, I had to have it! I’m a firm believer that Winter calls for warm colors and a pop of plaid, so I paired the warm tones of the hat and these boots with the cool greys and black of the jacket and plaid scarf to give the look a bit of depth and contrast.

For me, Winter often means a lot of layers, and clothing that makes me feel cozy and warm, so this outfit was a no brainer. I’ve actually had this Nine West jacket for years, and it never fails to serve me well on chilly days and frost filled nights. Having a great overcoat that can be worn with almost any outfit is essential. It can be tough to put down the money for a good coat, but having a good quality jacket will last you forever and never goes out of style. If you are trying to save on money, look for those post holiday sales to get what you want for a lower price.

As for the plaid scarf, it’s actually a men’s scarf! I find that often women’s scarves (at least in California) seem to be relatively thin and unforgiving in the cold, while men’s scarves are more hardy and warm. Fun fact, scarves are unisex, so try finding a warm winter scarf you love in the men’s section of the store to ensure that your outfit is extra cozy. The bold patterns often found in the men’s section are also a plus!

Don’t be afraid to mix things up with different colors, tones, and materials. The cold weather allows for mixing, matching, and layering of all kinds in order to stay warm, so have fun with it. Remember, Winter calls for warm colors and a pop of plaid!
