I recently saw an ad that said “Black and White: A modern kind of colorful,” and decided that it should be my new motto. I always thought my mom’s all black wardrobe was boring, until I got older and realized that my closet looked exactly the same. With that said, sometimes it is fun to add some color, so I wanted to talk about how to add a pop of color to your look.
Start small:
If you haven’t figured it out by now, I wear a lot of neutrals, so starting small when figuring how to add a pop of color has been key. Think about a colored statement necklace, a bright colored blouse paired with neutral pants and jacket, or my favorite option, colored shoes.
Why shoes are a great place to add color:
Shoes are a small yet impactful place to add a pop of color because shoes can easily tie together a look while acting as a contrasting statement piece. You can wear all black with a bright colored shoe and look totally chic and modern. Best of all? Colored shoes often don’t feel like they’re too bold, so they’re a great starting point if you’re trying to integrate bits of color to your wardrobe.
These are the shoes I’m wearing in this picture, and they’re on sale! I was immediately drawn to these particular shoes because of their color and shape, but was persuaded to make the purchase because of the low price. If you’re someone new to wearing color, I wouldn’t suggest splurging on a colorful pair of shoes because truthfully, you don’t know how you’ll feel about wearing them until you try. Why drop a bunch of money on something you might not like?
How to integrate more color throughout your wardrobe:
Like I said, the key is to start small with little purchases like jewelry, shoes, etc., but as you get more comfortable with color, you can try out more bold pieces. Try a colored handbag or a statement jacket if you really want to go big. If you want to stick with small pops of color, a layering blouse always works well. When you’re trying to add a pop of color to your wardrobe, purchase items little by little so you can slowly integrate them into your clothing routine.
The more bits and pieces you have, the more you can mix and match, and the more comfortable you’ll get with color! Happy hunting!
